      Business Consultant Interview

      13 Sept 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Irvine, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Zillow (Irvine, CA)

      Interview

I can honestly say that this is one of the coolest offices I've seen. The recruiter sat me down with a BC and I asked many questions, and he responded professionally and was very kind. After this exercise I was put in a small room where I would meet 3 people. Two were mangers, the last was a "Senior Member" who I thought was the most unprofessional. Why? After some dialogue I was specifically told that we "Zillow" focuses on internal candidates, and they only hire external candidates if there was a need. Well, I obviously was an external candidate, and I was floored when he told me this as I wanted to say well, what am I doing here then? For me, I knew that was the end of the interview, and It was apparent I was eliminated, but why even say that to a potential candidate? I'm a 10 year veteran in the online media space with a real estate background with great references and documented sales success, yet there was no constructive feedback why I wasn't considered. I can only chalk that up as I was an external candidate, and this is an unusual process for us, so thanks but no thanks. I felt like I was infringing on their territory. Anyways, my feedback is this. At Zillow you were ALL external candidates before someone hired you entry level or not, and to relay to your senior team that everyone should be given the chance at an opportunity regardless of age, sex, or if you are in or out of the "system" Be made aware this is a very young culture, and based on my witnessing of the sales floor, I didn't see too much diversity when age is concerned. My opinion is that they start these folks at the entry level and move them up through the chain, and if you're an outsider, they make you aware of that. The thing I would leave Zillow with is that your senior members should leave their ego at the door and treat outside candidates with respect, even for your more entry roles. I wasn't that impressed.

Thank you for submitting your feedback, and I appreciate the information. At Zillow Group we strive to promote career growth for all of our employees, while at the same time interviewing external talent for opportunities in our Premier Agent Sales organization. I apologize if our philosophy on that was miscommunicated to you and welcome you to contact me directly if you would like at sryan@zillowgroup.com. – Sheree Ryan, Recruiting Manager

      Business Consultant Interview

      7 Dec 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Irvine, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Zillow (Irvine, CA) in Nov 2019

      Interview

Interviewing with the “Recruiter” was completely contradictory to the interview with managers. The managers could not fully explain the day to day aspects of the job. Answered all questions accordingly however received an generic rejection email. Then when asked for additional feedback from the interview, I was told by the “recruiter” there was nothing he had on file and he would have to circle back. Still has not provided me with any information or feedback. I think I’m this day in age employers should be respectful of applicants. Tell them why so they may grow and be better. Don’t just ghost them because there is no constructive feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to interview with us for the Business Consultant role in our Irvine office, and I apologize your experience was not top-notch. The expectation is that each candidate receives notification of the outcome of an onsite interview via telephone, but our recruiters will also follow up with an email if a live connection was not possible to ensure individuals are not left in the dark, however specific feedback on the ultimate interview decision is not always able to be shared. If you would like to contact me directly to discuss your experience further you can via email at annie@zillowgroup.com. -Annie Rihn
