Pros
Majority of the sales assistants were a pleasure to work with Good for experience Decent pay compared to other jobs, especially when promoted (although you are worked more) Store discount is good Uniform is paid for
Cons
You are constantly micromanaged by management - several members of staff reported being timed when going to the bathroom. You were also watched on cameras to see if you were talking with colleagues Unfair scheduling with certain members of staff (e.g some getting morning shifts and others constantly getting put on closings even with a long commute home) Blatant favoritism when it comes to promotions, with people who had been there for 1+ years being denied promotion while people who had been there for only a few months had been fast tracked You will be expected to do a lot of things at once Management are very hypocritical say not to do things like talk with colleagues (with some desperate to write you up for it) yet will talk and joke in the office or shop floor Promotion system is ridiculous, a bunch of exams and interviews needed for a mini promotion You are practically forced to do overtime when on closing, especially if you have a manager that isn’t any help at all - cannot leave until the store is perfect Customers can be very rude and entitled (although this is unusual) and management will always take their side Overheard a manager say that the area manager said she only wanted “pretty people” to represent the company The “become supervisor in six months” is not true, you will be there years and if the interviewers and management don’t like you personally you have no chance. You have to be a certain way to get boosted to management or above - certain groups have a lower/no chance the higher ups especially were not diverse at all
