Great people but bad work politics.

      Pros

Pay is pretty good for new grads. Salary has steadily increased as the demand for SWEs increases. Two base salary increases across the board in the last 1.5 years, but not everyone gets it (more on that in cons). Work-life balance is great, but this can vary by what team you're on and management.

      Cons

Stack rankings. Even if you're a hard worker, if you have stellar coworkers/teammates, good luck. You'll get rated poorly and get blindsided because you weren't given any feedback throughout the year, hence no real opportunities to improve. If you're rated below strong, aka "performing as expected," you will not get a salary bump, even if the people who've been at the company for 3 months get the bump by default because they're "too new to rate." Work politics are clearly at play when it comes to performance reviews at mid-year and year-end. If you're placed on a team with a manager whose expectations are too high, good luck.

Call Center Job that is a Dead End in Auto

Jul 7, 2021 - Relationship Manager in Dallas, TX

      Pros

Time off is great, benefits and retirement package are good too. Cap One is very supportive in diversity

      Cons

There aren't many places to go other than being a Relationship Manager or an Area Sales Manager. THAT'S IT which makes the competition hard to move into management bc people won't want to leave management if that is a goal of yours. If you are not interested in management then you are stuck in your sales role so you can't move around and learn other interesting skills or job functions. It's a dead-end job sadly and Cap One Auto has made no improvements in trying to create new jobs other than just sales or management. So BE WARNED, if you are lucky to be chosen as a Relationship Manager or Area Sales Manager get comfortable. It definitely can cause burnout doing the same thing day in and day out with no prospects of learning new skills for new roles within the auto division. Do not be deceived, Relationship Manager is a call center role-if you are not a call center type this job isn't for you,if you plan to come in and move around don't come into Capital One Auto Finance--find another way into Capital One. I cannot stress enough that this is a DEAD END JOB and in NO way a Career.

Capital One cares about its customers and employees

      Aug 1, 2021 - Senior Business Analyst

      Pros

Capital One offers competitive pay and benefits to employees. Capital one has management that stresses flexibility and fulfillment in your role and works with you to find the right fit. You have a lot of opportunity to grow and develop with the company. Capital One has a high focus on customer satisfaction and most employees are also customers.

      Cons

The culture can be foreign for an outsider to navigate at first. Capital One adjusts quickly to outside (and internal) factors and reorgs can be common.

Great Place to Learn and Grow If You can Play Politics

      Pros

Great respect for work/life balance. Managers, at least seem, to care about the happiness of their reports and definitely want to try and make sure you're doing work that you enjoy. Company implemented "Invest in Yourself Days" where we were allowed to essentially do whatever in order to focus on ourselves. Some people literally used the day to meditate or have a good work out. Others used it to learn something new that they wouldn't usually get to use in their typical day-to-day. Definitely a place where you can come and retire. Competitive pay and job security as long as you do your job of course. Extremely smart people work here and you can learn a lot from the people around you.

      Cons

Like any corporate company, the politics game is heavy here. If you want a promotion you have to practice "influence" instead of just showing strong competency and results. The loudest and most vocal person is generally the one driving the discussion which I think leads to other team members from not wanting to participate or even caring to.

      A unique culture

      Pros

People are smart, mostly nice and good 401K match and I enjoy working remotely.

      Cons

Culture is very two faced, they love everyone to their face, but watch out when it comes time for midyear and annual evaluations. It is like a cross between the TV show Survivor and Real Housewives. The amount of passive aggressive behind your back activities is stunning. Someone is going to end up in the bad review bucket so people do what they have to in order to stay safe. And they are very big into diversity and inclusion, it is woven into everything as if race and gender identity are the only things that matter. If you fall into one of the correct victim groups you are safe, if not then keep your head down because as I said someone has to be labeled as underperforming.

      Pros

Great benefits, tons of PTO high quality cheap health insurance, very low stress culture, smart coworkers, great office facilities, lots of opportunities for employee learning

      Cons

Really don't have anything bad to say about Capital One. I think the main con is you are working at a company with whose goal is to make money off of peoples credit card debt.
