The Sports Facilities Assistant plays a vital hands-on role in supporting the logistical and operational needs of the Co-Curriculum Department (Sports). The role involves setting up and dismantling sports equipment for PE lessons, before and after school activities, and sporting events.
The appointee will support the smooth delivery of daily sports operations through the management of sports equipment, coordination of event logistics, and upkeep of facility readiness.
The role requires the appointee to respond effectively to changing operational needs, work collaboratively in a dynamic environment, exercise sound judgment, and manage tasks efficiently. The role plays an important part in supporting the Co-Curriculum Department by helping to maintain a well-organised, safe, and adequately equipped sporting environment.
This position reports to the Director of Sport through the Sports Manager. 5-day week with annual leave entitlement.
1. Logistics and Setup
- Handle the setup and dismantling of sports equipment for PE lessons, school sports activities, and events.
- Transport, move, and transfer equipment and supplies within the school and to off-site locations as needed.
- Ensure all required equipment is in place, functional, and available before and after scheduled activities.
- Assist with regular stock control and inventory management.
- Identify and report any damages or maintenance needs for equipment and facilities promptly.
2. Organisation
- Follow the duty roster and be ready to respond quickly to last-minute changes.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of sports equipment and supplies.
- Ensure safety is a priority when setting up and handling equipment.
3. Communication
- Adapt quickly to changes in event schedules, setups, and operational requirements.
- Communicate effectively with the Lead Sports Facilities Assistant, Sports Facilities Assistant, and other colleagues.
- Provide real-time updates to the line manager regarding operational or logistical issues.
- Engage with facility users to address requests and resolve any immediate concerns.
- Report and follow up on incidents of damage or misuse of facilities.
4. Event and Activity Support
- Assist in setting up and taking down equipment for school sporting events, inter-school competitions, and PE classes.
- Ensure that all necessary equipment is arranged correctly and is ready for use.
- Provide on-the-ground support for events, responding quickly to any setup changes or issues that arise.
5. Storage Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in all designated storage and facility areas.
- Ensure that store cupboards and equipment rooms are tidy and well-organized.
- Be proficient in usage of cleaning equipment/machinery.
6. General
- Maintain a high standard of personal appearance, including uniform.
- Exhibit a positive and responsible attitude, particularly when working around children.
- Be punctual and reliable with strong time management skills.
- Be flexible and willing to move between duties as needs arise.
- Remain flexible and willing to take on additional duties as required, including supporting other departments when necessary.
- Complete annual Review and Development exercises and pursue relevant professional development opportunities.
- Report any child safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

- Ability to safely handle, lift, move, and set up sports equipment and supplies as part of regular operational duties.
