Pros

Great location Cheap food at staff canteen Job stability, no retrenchment

Cons

Terrible work culture that is not open and progressive. A lot of middle management - tons of directors with old-school mindset who only think they are right and do not welcome differing opinions, and only knows how to delegate work to managers while coasting by. Lack of openness, transparency and communication, a lot of underground relationships and conversations (gossips). Management likes yes men all cut from the same cloth who shut up and do the work only. Political environment even within the same department - people only help those they are close to. A lot of dinosaurs with 10-20 years of experience. Old staff only help people in their own circle and ignore new staff. Lack of support and collaboration, people working in silos. You are expected to work while on leave or MC and bosses take it for granted, and even ask me to cut my medical leave and return to work earlier. Low bonus <1month for avg performer after the pay rebalancing. Ridiculous that bonus gets lower year on year even though company performance improved on paper.

Pros

- Retirement village that allows people without substance to coast for years - Finally offered free snacks (2 packs/day) after moving to different offices - Office spaces are relatively new and decent

Cons

- Office network is forever down despite being the #1 telco in Asia - Processes are tedious and creates unproductive work. Things barely move, if you can even get a project to kickoff it would be a win - Management is made up of traditional conservatives with little regard for improving ways of working - Get ready for 5 days of returning to the office, without enough seats/tables. Management has only accounted for 60% capacity in the new offices and when concerns were raised, we were asked to work in pantries/work booths - Optics is extremely important here - performative work is welcomed as long as you're at your desk - Extremely stingy culture where everything is done on the cheap - High attrition rate - MAP is very poorly structured. MAs are extra headcount tasked to take on roles created out of thin air (sometimes PA/intern-level work), not full-time openings

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience in Singtel hasn't met your expectations. We value your feedback and encourage you to discuss your concerns directly with your manager and People & Culture partner. People development is a top priority at Singtel and we invest significantly in a variety of development opportunities catering to all segments of employees. These include role-based career paths, training programmes, the Management Associate (MA) Programme, SHINE Cadet, Work-Study Programme (Catalyst). Our MA programme, for example, aims to develop our next generation of leaders by providing meaningful roles and diverse experiences that accelerate their career growth. Many of our MAs have successfully progressed to senior positions, which demonstrates the programme's effectiveness. We encourage you to take full advantage of the resources offered, particularly the Individual Development Plan, to optimise your professional growth and development. While we have transitioned back to the office, we also offer a comprehensive Flexible Work Arrangements Policy to cater for different needs. You may work from home up to one day per week to attend to personal matters or focused tasks, with manager approval. We believe a balance is essential, as in-person collaboration fosters teamwork, innovation, and a strong sense of community, which are crucial for our company culture and employee well-being. With the exciting redevelopment of Comcentre underway, we have invested in new office spaces to ensure comfort and productivity. With recent renovations at our major offices at Serangoon North, Singapore Post Centre, and City South, we have ensured that ample seating, creative meeting pods, silent pods, a reliable network, on-site IT helpdesks, and on-site medical centre are readily available. In addition, our employees can enjoy generous perks such as gym access, comprehensive medical and well-being benefits, fully-paid corporate mobile handsets and lines – just to name a few. These newly renovated offices may not be perfect, but many employees have commented positively about the amenities and the interactive nature of the open space designs. We have also invited employees to provide feedback and make suggestions to make the offices better. We will continue to make the necessary enhancements.

Pros

Stable position, relatively nice people, nice bosses depending on your division

Cons

This is a tech company that announced the end of blended ways of working/ hybrid working, in their many acronyms (B-WoW) end of last year during a townhall stream, citing employees using netflix and youtube at home. Work from home is no more, with HR peddling the 'increased collaboration' and 'better mental health' message of working in office. They also point to their many positive indicators from the employee engagement surveys. Would love for them to do an impact report on the change from b-wow to full office droning - yea less time watching netlifx, more time catching colds in office and one dimensional ways of working and getting packed in the commute. I can tell you we will take more sick days and find more reasons to leave work early whenever possible now. As is often the case, ground realities are different from wayang metrics and reports. Speak to staff around, and also look at the turnover and one would know the mood and emotions, once you take your head out of the sand. That they brilliantly timed this draconian measure to sync with the chaotic moving of office from the somerset HQ to other more congested offices and areas is beautiful. In our supposed space of tech and innovation, it is shameful when we try to explain to our partners (gov and private) about our working policy. 'Aren't you a telco company that advocates connectivity and empowerment?' This is in fact one of the biggest impact, the signaling of top down rigidity vs creative flexibility. And before a Singtel rep comes in here and replies "please speak to your manager to find a solution blah blah" - yea we need to smoke some reason just to work from home once a week now eh? The world has moved on and improved certain processes since the pandemic, there really is no point going back to the stone age. Throw in your below average increments, and actually poor connectivity within the offices somehow, use of flowery acronyms, this becomes a retirement home which is not too comfortable

Hello, Thank you for sharing your valuable thoughts. While we have requested all employees to return to the office, we recognise the value of flexibility in the workplace. Employees can have the flexibility to work from home to attend to personal matters or to focus on specific tasks that require a quiet environment, as long as it does not exceed one day per week. They would just have to inform their manager to pre-empt any disruptions to business operations. The flexibility of working from home must be balanced with the importance of having in-person attendance at the office. Being together in the office helps to foster teamwork and camaraderie, facilitates co-creation, ideation and innovation, and creates a stronger sense of belonging, vital for nurturing the organisation's culture and identity. Many of our employees, especially new hires, have shared that returning to the office increased their access to mentors and more experienced colleagues, established clearer work-life boundaries, and contributed to improved mental wellness. We recognise that change can be uncomfortable. If you have personal needs for more flexibility in your workdays, please talk to your manager and HR people partner. We have other flexible work arrangements that can be explored. Take care and stay well.
